Abbeydale Badminton Academy
The Abbeydale Badminton Academy provides a quality training environment for players of all abilities. Our highly dedicated team of badminton England qualified coaches deliver professional standards of coaching through fun and engaging sessions. We run 12 squad sessions and with 240 junior coaching places we make full use of our dedicated hall which has undergone a complete refurbishment and now offers an international standard playing environment.
Our current junior programme is the result of over ten years of development. We support each child in their growth as a player and individual with training tailored to meet a range of ambitions.
Abbeydale 'Elite' players train in the advanced sessions; many of our juniors represent their schools and Yorkshire County. We have a long history of players reaching a national standard and with two coaches who have a combined total of over 40 years experience working with England juniors we have the knowledge to guide our players to the highest level. Several current players are National Champions in their age group and play for team GB in events such as the World Juniors Championships, this year in Japan and the Youth Olympics which was held in Australia in January 2013. We support our elite players with mentoring support as well as access to professional strength and conditioning training, physiotherapy and other sports science services at our partner Sheffield Hallam University.
Â
Abbeydale 'Development' players train in the intermediate sessions; the training covers the key technical, tactical and physical areas of the game and we also offer assistance in planning a tournament schedule. Intermediate sessions are delivered by the Head coach and two up and coming coaches who not only have several years coaching experience but also impressive playing records representing Yorkshire County at Premier level and even competing against Malaysia in the Dehli 2010 Commonwealth games!
Abbeydale ‘Future’ players are our introductory squad players, aimed at beginners from 8 years old. The sessions are centred on fun and engagement whilst following a structure to provide young players with core badminton techniques as well as fundamental athletic skills. We have an excellent team lead by our assistant head coach who provides the perfect foundation to our coaching programme.
The ‘Little Smashers’ are our youngest squad of rising stars, for children aged 4-8 years.
Academy players also receive a discount on Yonex Badminton equipment from the Yonex Club Shop or from ClubRackets.com. Please ask the coaches for further details.
